Completed age is the reference year minus the birth year, with one year subtracted if the birthday has not yet arrived. For example, someone born on 2 October 1992 is 33 on 1 October 2026 and turns 34 the next day.
Years, months, days and total time lived
The detailed duration starts with completed years, then counts up to 11 whole calendar months and the remaining days. Months use their actual lengths; days lived counts the date difference with the birth date at zero.
Completed months is a separate month-based measure. A monthly anniversary falls on the last day of a shorter month: 31 January to 28 February counts as one month. It may not equal the year-and-month breakdown around a leap-day birthday.
Next birthday and leap years
The birthday countdown uses the selected reference date. A birthday on that date has zero days remaining. For 29 February, the next birthday date is the next actual 29 February, which may be several years away.
Completed age for a 29 February birth increases on 1 March in a non-leap year. This is a calendar calculation convention, not a statement about legal age rules in your country.
